Sunscreen Properties
SPF
The product's sun protection factor. This number denotes the amount of protection that a sunscreen offers against UVB rays specifically. A product with an SPF of 15 offers the user 15 times the amount of time exposed to the sun unprotected, before the skin is burned.
Broad Spectrum
Broad Spectrum sunscreens provide protection from both UVA light and UVB light. This is an important consideration for everyone as it is important to protect yourself from UVA, which damages the skin at a deeper level, as well as from UVB which causes sunburns.
Anti-oxidants
Many products contain anti-oxidants, which are a class of ingredients that can neutralize free radicals, which form the process that leads to skin aging. Vitamin A, C, E, and beta-carotene are all examples of antioxidants.
Non-irritating
Non-Irritating products avoid ingredients like fragrance that are known to be irritating to the skin. This is an important consideration for those with sensitive skin, or those that are prone to allergic reactions.
Price
Cosmetic products come in varying sizes. We measure product price per ounce to make price comparisons easier. Price is an important consideration for sunscreens, as it is important to apply sunscreens regularly, and liberally for proper sun protection.
